The problem isn't harvesting (technically every country that does organ transplants harvests organs), or with the idea of getting money for organs. The problem is with taking organs without consent and in some cases killing people for them.
The examples are either authoritarian countries executing people and taking their organs, or black markets.
The black market stories may be exaggerated (they certainly are in the US, or maybe the proper term is invented, it seems the stories are urban myths). The authoritarian executions and organ grabbing stories are, as far as I can tell, not significantly exaggerated.
But organ sales, with proper consent (and mostly from non-living donors, who signed off on consent while they where alive) from properly run and supervised organizations, would lead to much less suffering as they would increase the number of organs available, instead of leaving people to suffer for years, and/or die, because of the lack of organs. |
