It would be part of a comprehensive energy plan... we also get efficiency and research. That's how politicians, not ideologues, operate.

And the WSJ article I posted noted that there are Democrats who depart from the no-compromise Pelosi-Reid leadership in being willing to make such compromises. Why didn't Obama join those if he is one of them? Why did he wait till it was too late?

Now I personally have mixed feelings about 50 miles off the Florida west gulf coast, considering that that is less than 52 miles from where I sit in my home office right now, and my plan in an hour or so is to take my 18 week old puppy to a pristine gulf beach to romp with other 4 legged creatures. A gorgeous place with beautiful white sand and a view to die for.

So am I willing to risk that? Reluctantly, and only if others are will to make sacrifices. The only reason we need to risk my beach is because millions of assholes like to drive around in 7000 pound SUVs.

There have been unsuccessful attempts to get compromises to allow natural gas drilling (which CAN'T SPILL and wash up on your pristine beach) offshore (far offshore) and Florida anti-drilling forces have blocked that. See Destin Dome. Why?

Obama is beginning a negotiation.

Baloney, if he really wanted a negotiation, he wouldn't have only started talking about it as Congress was adjourning.
