A "foothold" or a "footstuck"? The difference is that the Japanese and Germans actually LIKED us after our occupation. I'm not so sure that's the case in Iraq, except for the Kurds. The ONLY thing we really know that has been accomplished in Iraq is that the Sunnis are out and the Shiites are in. Our Allies over there (Saudis, Kuwaitis, etc.) don't seem to think that's such a great thing.
