There's an article in today's paper about a local killer, Joseph Duncan, who killed a family, abducted two children, molested both, killed one and was caught in the company of the other. He insists on acting as his own defense counsel, against almost everyone's advice. This puts an onerous burden on the prosecutors and judge to make sure nothing goes awry that would be overturned on appeal. This Duncan is one of those people who I sincerely wish had resisted arrest and had been shot dead by the police. Or somebody. It would have saved millions, and would have been a much more just fate for the bastard than anything the courts can come up with, including the death penalty.
