If you think refineries are getting rusty, talk to Elroy or ask on Boom Boom Room. They get partially rebuilt at every change from gasoline to heating oil and back.

Many observers are predicting a broad peak to peak oil, allowing a number years, maybe decade or more, to change to non oil options.

Most of the abrupt oil decline scenarios involve multiple political actions, like Nigeria, Venezuela, etc. High prices provide incentive to maintain production.

An abrupt collapse in oil production would have severe consequences. That does not mean it will not happen.
