If a superior alien race could travel interstellar space (unlikely) they could move about unseen and take us over without us knowing. The odds against that ever happening are so high as to be almost nil.

It's unlikely they would hunt us to extinction probably just mine out some natural resources using a combination of robots and slave labor and continue on their way.

We're more likely to be wiped out by a meteorite or other astrobleme and chances are with our only slightly advanced from stone age technology won't see it coming.

The odds are consciousness is distinct to our planet and there are no alien powers to be concerned with.
