But I have no doubt that someone following these type of guidelines would be markedly better off than someone eating a typical American diet of fast food, pizza, and doughnuts.

We can fuss all we want about distinctions between Adkins, Zone, Mediterranean, etc. all we want but the distinctions among them are really details in the grand scheme of things. Just quit eating crap and you'll be ahead of 90% of the population.
