>>>Economic Free Fall?<<<

That is truly a depressing piece. I am sorry to say that it appears to be quite accurate.

What can I do as a citizen???

I called my Senators and Congressman immediately post FNE/FRE and pre Dodd bailout. That helps. I question how much. I used to go in and see my previous Congressman, but that was a small district.

I think that Congress is bought and paid for - in this case by the big banks. The repeal of Glas-Stegall, the dropping of the anti FNE/FRE lobbying, both Dems and Pubs dismantling banking regulation.

I think that term limits would go a long way.

This country has never seen an organized rebellion against the federal government. The closest I can recall was the 1980 vote against Jimmy Carter. I have never seen a populist issue sent before Congress. Strike that. We had huge anti Viet Nam war and civil rights protests. There may have been some coordinated, issue specific, banking protests way back in the 1910s.

I suspect that for every 10,000 calls into my Congressman pleading for mortgage relief, there was one caller screaming about the bank bailout.

I think that all we can do is stay on our toes with our investments and keep a low profile.
