Let me play devils advocate for a sec. Isnt it also in our interest not to further destabilize the middle east? The fact that as a region they have totally squandered their oil wealth and house the worlds most corrupt and ineffective governments, should not be a reason to cut off the only source of wealth they have. Lessen dependence for sure but end oil as a usable commodity at prices high enough to generate some wealth in the arab world might not be good policy. Maybe the next 10 years should be dedicated more to helping these folks use their depleting source of wealth wisely than cutting them off entirely. A total cut off will certainly add to the strength of the terrorists as well. Do we really want to do this, cold turkey thing to these people at this critical time?

First of all, world demand is going to continue to grow even if we wean ourselves off the crap. Secondly, I'll worry about the 'poor' ME nations once I feel like this country is moving in the right direction vis a vis the American oil addiction. Let me remind you....kicking an addiction is not easy.
