As a consultant who makes his living in the PC world I find it surprising to hear it said that the network is not as important as it would be for NCs. I see they have the caveat at least that only " if applications and current files are stored locally". I for one am extremely dependent on my network - email, database servers, file servers - corporate intranet. Of course if by chance I had stored all of my work and all I do is use Office products well that is a different story. But I find that most users in any medium to large enterprise are highly dependent on networks - all mission critical business systems are usually 2 tier to n-tier client-server (not many users have a database server on their desktop) .

While a PC user may be able to while away some time with local apps most users in any environment I've worked would be greatly impeded by network outages.

I think one of the reasons we forget how dependent we are is because networks today are quite robust and hardly ever fail although at peak times we may experience an occasional slowdown. And with 1 gig ethernet (and ATM further down the road) bandwith is not such a hot issue as it was either. Of course the network appears much more critical for NC's but perhaps companies that have already invested greatly in their LANs and WANs can leverage that investment with NCs.
