Understood, but political correctness does nothing to reduce said tensions. All it does is make topics of race taboo. And stifling free discussion is exactly what we don't need.

Political correctness does not discourage discussions about race. It discourages the use of words like nigger and gook that have a negative connotation about a particular group. Don't fall into the trap rigged by the political right.....they disparage political correctness because it discourages them from expressing how they feel about other races.

If you want to increase tolerance, let's start by not being so offended by words. Did I tell you about the graffiti incident in my neighborhood, where some punk or punks decided to spraypaint tons of racial slurs on people's garage doors and cars?

Now you tell me how "political correctness" could have prevented that incident.

It couldn't.....just as warnings on cigarette packages don't prevent people from smoking. All it can do is reduce such incidents. The more people who refuse to tolerate racism the less likely incidents you describe up above will happen.

What group did the punks target?
