Re: "Don't let the facts get in your way..."
Good advice that YOU SHOULD TAKE yourself, Steve.
Since:
1) (With regard to the US having the world's largest coal reserves) I *never said anything to the contrary* --- in fact, when you first raised the matter I agreed with you that it is true.
So, as far as coal goes --- it seems only that STEVE wants to ARGUE WITH HIMSELF. (Which you surely don't need me for. <GGG>)
2) (With regard to your claim that the 'US has the world's largest oil reserves') I'd like to point out that the blog link you posted to advance that claim only says the US MIGHT have', not that we 'do have'....
And that it is specifically referring to OIL SHALE 'reserves' --- which are not allowed to officially be counted as economic 'reserves' by the US Government (the SEC, or Interior, etc.) since it has not been established that a technology can be devised to render them economic to produce oil from. Well... possibly at $250 or $500 a barrel for oil it might some day become economic to grind up the rock to squeeze out oil in commercial quantities... (and I freely admit that, yes, the US HAS THE WORLD'S LARGEST GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS OF 'OIL SHALE' --- it's just that none of it is in commercial production, and the US government will not allow any company to formally count any of this as commercial 'reserves' when they speak to investors. In fact, it's illegal for any company to make that as a claim.
So, I'm just sticking with the formal rules, what the US Government says can *actually counted* as 'economic reserves', Steve.
But, hey!
No need for *YOU* to let the facts get in your way!
Go ahead with a good unsupported screed is you want to!
And, by all means: keep arguing with YOURSELF over the points that no one else is disagreeing with! |
