David, one reason why people drive so aggressively is because of traffic. Two examples:

a) If you accelerated "gradually" as you merged onto California's highways, I guarantee you that someone will swerve to dodge you.

b) After staying stuck in traffic for extended periods of time, people become very impatient and try to make up for it by driving more aggressively, myself included.

With everyone in a "hurry" these days, telling people to slow down and take it easy requires that we all adopt a less hectic lifestyle.
