Actually, there is a law about acceleration, it's called "Display of speed." It usually involves squealing tires, but it's up to the officer's discretion.

One of the biggest jackass maneuvers I saw was this weekend while driving with the family. A Nissan Altima was probably doing 90 as traffic was beginning to increase and slow from about 65. He changed lanes rapidly and squeezed between cars in such little space that I was sure he was going to cause a wreck. I've seen a few dumb moves in my time, but that one really caught my attention as it was such a wide difference in speed and done in such a reckless manner in heavy traffic.

Speeding is one thing, being a complete jackass is entirely another. I don't think stupidity is limited to one brand of car.
