It was different with Reagan. The DNC did not like him, but many Americans did. He was glib and avuncular. Some of his policies - the overspending on military, the waste, the initial dismissal of AIDS, scandals - drove Demos crazy. But, he did not attempt to subvert the Constitution, destroy the economy, or discard the planks of the GOP. Demos were happy when he was gone, but Reagan garnered a lot of cross party support, and did not attempt to marginalize Americans who did not agree with his policies by allowing surrogates to defame them. Demos are full of disgust - for Bush. And angry people show up at the polls...
