Many people keep their car tires reasonable inflated. Many who don't, will not do so whatever any campaign for it does. I'll be optimistic and say that you could get an extra 10% of all drivers to inflate their tires properly. 3% better fuel economy, for roughly 4 and a half percent of all oil use (factor in that driving isn't all our petroleum use, and your only changing the habits of 10% of drivers), gives you something like a bit over a tenth of a percent reduction in total oil use.

And that's using somewhat optimistic assumptions. A hundredth of a percent is probably more realistic.

I've heard the figure of $700bil a year for oil imports thrown around. If that's correct, than 1 part per 10000 of that (one hundredth of one percent) means we save $70mil a year (or under a quarter per person)
