"he falsely said that it would save as much oil as new drilling would provide. "

Have you crunched the numbers, Tim? Depending on who you choose to believe, drilling the OCS will result in somewhere between 200k and 1 million barrels a day. Now, according to a government study, 27% of all cars and 32% of all light trucks, SUVs and vans have one or more tires at least 25% underinflated. If you crunch the numbers and include that there is an average of 19.5 gallons of gas per 42 gallon barrel of oil, you get a number that is somewhere between 1/3 of what is expected from OCS drilling to more than what is expected. When you figure that less than a 25% underinflate likely compromises fuel economy and that more cars are likely in that category, it isn't all that clear that his statement is false. And a good chance he was lowballing.

"(Which not only isn't true, but also isn't a reasonable argument against the new drilling, since doing one doesn't get in the way of doing the other)"

Well, Tim, he didn't claim it was an argument about new drilling. So you are lying about this. He was just putting things in perspective.

Thanks for playing! To bad you are 0 for 2, but not everyone can be a winner!
