the Russian rebound was always going to happen. It's just too big and too rich in too many things not to become powerful again, especially when globalization's rapid expansion fuels all these heightened energy and commodity prices. ...... The result was that anti-Western elements of the Russian political spectrum gained credibility and influence. The Russians have been given proof that the only way they'll get respect is when they once again become powerful bullies. When NATO bombed peaceful Serbian cities - over strongest objections from Russia - on behalf of Kosovo Liberation Army, that was the end.
