The theory goes thet with a virus that replicates at the rate that HIV does (10-100 Billion copies/day), there is virus replicated which is basically defective ie.codon mutations have taken place, and that therefore you will have some virus which will be resistant to anything you throw at it. What is hard to have is virus particles that are multidrug resistant. Like MDRMTB, very rare. Several years ago an investigator made the prediction that a FIVE DRUG combo would be needed to stop HIV.
