The NYT "S'plains."
Riiiiiiiiiight.
For almost 10 months, the story of John Edwards’s affair remained the nearly exclusive province of the National Enquirer — through reports, denials, news of a pregnancy, questions about paternity and, finally, a slapstick chase through a hotel in Beverly Hills.
I saw Barry Levin of the National Enquirer on Hannity & Colmes, looking and sounding a lot more like a proper investigative reporter than the MSM. Now that it's proven that the Enquirer got the story right, the MSM looks even dumber, if that is possible.
Bill Keller, the executive editor, said in an e-mail message that Mr. Edwards’s dark-horse status and the “added hold-your-nose quality about The Enquirer” contributed to the lack of interest by The Times and the mainstream media generally.
Unlike, say, the story of Bill Bennet gambling? Because he was a front runner! no wait, it was the hypocrisy!, no wait, that wouldn't apply to Edwards because - I forget why.
This is getting fun. Now I want to see them them 'splain how come Edward's long-running affair with a women who by Barry Levin's account loves him and intends to marry him once he's free, and with whom he's had a baby, is not news, but some heavy breathing over insinuations about a McCain affair that just might have happened eight years ago, except everybody involved denies it and there is no evidence, that was news fit to print. On Page A1 above the fold. |
