Yes, they can meet demand... but for processors built at .35 micron. INTC wants to switch all of their MPUs to .25 and then .18 for Merced. This is where the capital spending from INTC will come... not from just fab space alone, but the type of fab space... As far as speed goes, there are a whole lot of p90, 100, 120 and 133 laptops out there that in the corporate world which will need to be replaced... As for speed, I am somewhat of a computer junkie, so perhaps my view on speed is biased, but I find my Pentium Pro 200 with 64 megs or Ram too slow sometimes... The corporate world will demand PII's.. right now the consumer segment is what is hitting INTC hard, since the segment 1 market ($1000 boxes) took INTC a bit by surprise.... but soon, there will be software (ie, many of the newest games), which will make anything but a PII233 crawl.
