Almonds are probably the equivalent to walnuts in health benefits. I prefer walnuts with salads or oatmeal and almonds when cooked with fish or chicken.

I don't know anything about the advantages of raw versus cooked nuts. I hope the cooked ones retain all or most of the benefits. I definitely avoid salted nuts. If the raw ones just contain a few more vitamins, well that's why we are taking vitamin pills, isn't it? Raw nuts are fairly unpalatable in general.
