Anything is possible. Edwards, though, was hardly the golden boy of the media. They very much took their cues from the wingnuts with the "Breck Girl" meme, for example. Or the $400 haircut. If any of them had gotten any hard evidence, I think they would have run with it. Innuendo, especially with his sick wife, wasn't going to be enough.
