The Russians do not descend from the Vikings - I think the white Americans are genetically much closer to the Vikings than the Russians, but in both cases, it is totally irrelevant because the consequences are none. Even if you look at the hungarians, who share some language with the Finns, they are not Ethnic closer to the Finns today than the Germans. As time goes, genes distribute and only some parts of the culture (like language) remains geographically separated.

The Vikings went to the east, but they founded trade stations. They didn't do farming, and quickly mixed with the locals genetically. In other words, they were a minority, but brought trade routes and traditions. Many other kinds of people did that, too.

Anyway, the Vikings were mostly trade people, not violent people as depicted sometimes.
