In the light of all this data, which I am well aware of, the actual case that Russia's role in the two breakaway regions of Georgia is that of a peacekeeper.

It appears to me that it is in our interests to keep playing the Kosovo move and allow South Ossetia and Abkhazia full recognition as independent states. If Saakashvili needs a nudge he should be given a firm poke in the ribs to comply.

That way we can all be seen to look humanitarian yet keep a firm eye on the essentials.

It would be good for Russia to consolidate some power in its democracy and reign in some of its extremist movements. Full play is being made by the extremists of the SO attacks, and are all volunteering for front line duty to honor their nation. That is so 1940's, we need to show we are better then that these days.
