Remember that most Russian adventures do not end well.

And while that statement admittedly sounds a bit windy, the recipe for disaster is there.

Russians have a tradition of Strong Men who overreach and fail.

It is not because the forces of peace, freedom and democracy have been in charge that the Russians are so abysmally f****d for so long.

It is a country with all kinds of resources it has mismanaged at the altar of The Strong Man or by letting whatever current version of the Mafiothugocracy exists to take over.

And that is why it is so screwed and why it looks to me that history is repeating itself.

No matter how hard you try, it is difficult to prevent the human yearning for liberty.

Ultimately what it is all about, though I admit history shows that this yearning is either weaker in Russia or more brutally supressed.

The Nashi, Putin's version of the Hitler Youth, is scary for it shows his intentions more transparently than anything else he does.
