Hedge funds alone in fight against short-selling curb
I've been trying to answer what I thought was a simple question - why *should* shorting be allowed? If we are a market driven economy, then only physical ownership should be sold. IMO, all the complex investment vehicles have only made our markets overly complex, easy for those at the top to manipulate, and turned "investing" into trading.

So why should shorting be allowed? And I don't accept "it adds liquidity" as a general argument - if the price moves in either direction enough, an equilibrium will be found based on market forces, allowing those that want to sell or buy to do so. Why is an artificial pressure on the sell side needed?

TIA,

HAB
