Humankind was not designed to use speech in a way that complies with mathematical logic. Speech is not generated in the same place in the brain that makes decisions. Also, two people's brains are not wired the same way, don't have the same functions in the same places, which means that the same word or concept cannot be understood the exact same way by all people. It is physically impossible. One way to model the differences between brain wirings is described here:

Realizing how different brains are wired, answers many questions, including "I don't understand why other people...", "I assumed you knew this, but was obviously wrong", "Why is my wife picking on me?", "Why don't they see what I see?" and many others.
When some people use the phrase "Western world", they mean something different than when other people use the same phrase. For instance, to me, the western world includes Australia and Austria, which are both on the eastern hemisphere.
Discussions usually improve a lot, when you first try to figure out what the other person really means, and then try to figure out how to communicate an answer to that person. Two different people may need two different sentences in order to achieve the same result. A simple trick is to reply to something by asking a question, instead of providing statements. A question that transmits information requires good understanding of the other person's communication, and in case these studies weren't good enough, it's just a harmless question. |
