Brief analysis of deferred revenue:

I had a chat with my accounting professor at Kellog and he said that 95% of the time the deferred revenue refers to actual services and not royalties. However is the companies have a fixed payment schedule - yearly or semi annually, then royalties could be put in the deferred revenue account. Any thoughts?
