That isn't exactly true. No information the could reliably lead to a specific reduction? Yes. No reason to think more generally that there would be problems? No. The signs where there.

To the extent that is true (and its not completely true), you undermine your own prediction of "yet unemployment looks set to continue upwards". Either we can see signs of the economic future or we can't. Which is it?
