Even if it wasn't for that, the point is that absent solid evidence that it would scale, there is no reason to think it would. "They did it", to the extent that they actually did, doesn't give us any reason to think that fact is meaningful to us.


I would say the burden of proof is on the proposition that it wouldn't scale. Why would you just assume that it's a one off?

Worse than they likely otherwise would have been. Imposing a great cost, and doing damage, doesn't imply that the country can't recover from it and still do ok.


Maybe worse, maybe not. And quite possibly they are in a great position for the future.
