Well, the problem is that batteries are just chemistry. And the field has under investigation for more than a century. Which is not to say there aren't any surprises, but they are going to be few and far between.

Hate to say it but we have to disagree. Think of how much money it is worth to replace the transportation oil industry. Chemistry ain't done science, and incremental improvement, 10-20-30% is big; 50% is game change. Some of the best minds in the country are chasing this... it's where the money is.

I'm not a strong believer in the "ultimate breakthrough solution". I think we are going to see electric/hybrid electric cars in 3 or so years and a lot of smart people will say "WTF I have an idea that can do that 10% better". Combined, they will revolutionize the industry.

The only thing I know is that oil is not the future. "Necessity is the mother of invention" (I think it goes).
