Paul, re 1) PII vs. the MMX:

First off, the PPro is not MMX capable. The MMX processors made the classic Pentiums MMX capable, but they still lacked the "on-the-fly" ECC (error correcting code) capabilities of the Pentium Pro (which was necessary for a quality server). Now comes the PII, which is both MMX capable and also has the ECC feature of the Pentium Pro. Some PII with Intel motherboards have other new features also, including the AGP port, which is a separate single slot for AGP graphics cards. The AGP slot has a 66Mhz bus to the CPU, whereas PCI slots have only a 33Mhz bus. Caveats: AGP is very new, and requires not only an AGP graphics card, but also a special driver from either Intel or Microsoft. A very recent issue of PC Mag (I believe Sept 25th) has an article in which PC Mag attempted to get AGP to work (they succeeded). Beyond these things, other features of the PII are addressed in this post:

Bottom line for me is I like to get the latest, best chip, so my next PC will very probably be a PII.
