Carolyn - I think there is distortion going on all over. I am for domestic drilling to insure at least an emergency supply. It is not true, likely not, that it would affect short term prices. But this isn't a short term issue, afterall. I get annoyed at people who don't want to possibly unpristine a natural area to drill for gas but don't mind other countries and beautiful areas unpristined to get the gas for them to use. And i do think it is imperitive to have an emergency supply... there is no way in the foreseeable future, I don't think, that we can be completely without the need for some degree of oil supply. If it is there, go find it. That's security. And only fair, to some extent. Don't want to 'mess up Alaska'? Then don't use any oil that is drilled from other countries whose 'landscape' is compromised to get it. Or something like that. I just wish the rhetoric from all sides would be dropped and things brought to a more practical level.
