Pat: With all the competition at prices below $1000, Apple remains out of step.They're at the high end with the fulcrum dipping to the low end. Graphics and education are their remaining markets and the wolves are in there also.

Jobs is not known for management -- at best a clever iconoclast with a fine verbal gift. His ego demands novel approaches to what he believes is a contribution in the science of PCs. He's out of his water and Apple looks to pay the price. The competition is fierce. Unless they have magic somewhere behind their plans to regain something near their past position, can't see how Apple can survive. Their alliance with MSFT was their last gasp; and Gates is a follower,not a leader.Once you slip, recovery in the market place is
near impossible.
