We left them alone, then we did not consider the Taliban a threat. Many thought that is how they wanted to live, but discovered Muslims to the north were fighting the Taliban and joined forces with them. Since 911 it has worked well. I don't think the Georgians who already had a democratic government is going to be overrun by terrorists, nor do I think we will ignore them this time around.
