Steve,
I've always been a high end user personally. I always buy the fastest machine, and it has always seemed too slow...until I bought a 200MHz, 64MB Pentium Pro with NT4.0 last year. Still seems plenty fast. Takes 2 seconds to open any application. Other responses are instantaneous. Next move will probably be to upgrade to a 19-in or 20-in monitor. The biggest time waster for me currently is the slowness of my internet connection. I am installing a 56K modem tomorrow (currently have 28K modem). I may try DirectPC. Cable company and telephone companies in my town haven't got high speed access available.

At work we are finally switching from Macintosh to PCs: 200MHz or faster; ethernet cards; 17-inch monitors or larger; 3.2MB or bigger HD; 32MB or more RAM; some have CD. Change-over will take 3 years.

So what do you think this means for the future of Intel, Compaq, Dell, and their competitors?
