Everyone who advocates socialism these days look to Europe as a model. They always highlight the benefits while ignoring the drawbacks, thinking that by adopting an EU-like socialism, we can get one without the other.

The New Deal of the 1930's may be understandable, but the "Newer Deal" of the 21st century is a path toward stagnation at best. Rather than harness the power of the individual and private entrepreneurship, we'll be relying more and more on huge government bureaucracies to fulfill our basic needs. All paid for by the most upwardly-mobile of citizens (cause you know, the rich will never raise taxes on themselves).
