No...I don't think we "needed" to give them a place. They would have found one. The thing is, we HAD them in Afghanistan and if we had just concentrated on that from the getgo we could have wiped them out with MOST of the world on our side. Even the Arabic world. After we went into Afghanistan even the Iranians made overtures for talks, but Bush just ignored them. He was too intent on showing his Dad up and taking Iraq. At the worst we could have played Iraq and Iran against each other the way we did during their war in the 1980's. You don't think the U.S. has had 30,000 killed AND wounded in Iraq? Also, you don't think our total cost for the Iraq War will amount to at least a Trillion after all is said and done, including the long term care of the seriously wounded?
