You tell me John. How come you and I turned out OK when we grew up without universal health care and universal day care? Do you believe SilentZ when he says that you and I are the "exception"?

My father was a doctor, made good money, so yes I would say I wasn't typical.

Also in those days a family could get by on one salary... not these days. Health care was MUCH cheaper. A different world.

The really offensive part is the way liberals arrogantly assume they are the "charitable" ones. Cause you know, it's all too easy to be "charitable" with other people's money ...

And your own. The US has been a very good free cash flow machine... spinning out a lot of $'s. Everybody that works contributes, and everybody deserves a living wage. Lower end wages haven't kept up with inflation, so a large segment of the population is in trouble. If we had flatter wages we probably wouldn't need national health care or child care.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but churches have been taking up the slack for centuries.

Of course, many people refuse to look to the church for help for various reasons. One is because they view the church as judgemental.

Another might be because they don't want to break out of sinful habits that have led them to their situation. For example, why should a father who has a gambling addiction go to the church for help raising his kids? Just go to the government for help.

Many people need help that don't have any "addictions", just normal folks.
