How do you think Tom DeLay, to name one, got to be a multi-millionaire while in the House? He certainly wasn't rich when he got elected the first time.

Bill and Hillary Clinton were absolutely broke when elected in 1992. Practically every politician gets rich while in office. It is a nasty business. But that's the way it is played.

Don't get the idea that liberals are somehow less likely than conservatives to do this. Barbara Boxer has made a ton of money as a Senator. How'd that happen? What about Feinstein?

OTOH, my old representative slept on the couch in his office. I used to call him and he'd be answering his own phone. It isn't pervasive, but it is at LEAST as prevalent amongst liberals as conservatives.
