>>>the stipulation that only those who pay taxes get to vote. <<<

Being an engineer, I didn't get quite the (formal) education in liberal arts, political history, economics that I would have liked. There is one, and only one good book in airport bookstores. I was traveling once and found amongst the pulp fiction, a copy of The Federalist Papers, which were a series of essays arguing for a strong federal government back in the late 18th century. Lead to the Constitution in 1783.

Let me tell you. That "crap" that you hear spewed today about equality oozing out from every rock in the United States was not in the minds of those beneficent, freedom loving, "Dead White European Males." They wanted all the voters to have some skin in the game baby. There is constant mention of the "tyranny of the masses."

I rather think today that that is just what we have..."tyranny of the masses." Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton , etc would all be turning over in their graves. Writing some 50 years after the American constitution...

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. Alexis de Tocqueville

I don't like to vote any more because when I go in there I get asked if I would like my ballot in English or Spanish. (I always tell them I want it in German. They get POed at me.) Of course I will never not vote. It just makes me gag. Don't get me wrong. I am not a racist. Every Hispanic worker I have ever hired for a job has worked his fannie off for me. But they or anybody else coming here can learn enough English in order to earn the right to vote.

I am pulling myself together to go bitch out my Congressman about the weakening dollar, inflation, and especially the free ride I am now giving the banks. I am going to tell him that I want him to collect all the Fannie and Freddie shares and redistribute them to the taxpayers. After all, we are the ones financing the venture. I will tell him that I don't want to see any thing other than English ballots in federal election places.

End of rant.
