You are probably right, but I think the current system was specifically designed to enable some people in government and in the financial sector to transfer wealth and power to themselves in ways that most other people won't understand or notice. I would feel better about an imperfect monetary system whose primary goal was to preserve the value of the currency, favor fiscal prudence over irresponsibility and wealth transfer, etc....
