No one debating you is proposing "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

They are rather expecting something that is more like the same result. We've opened areas to drilling before and got oil from them. We'd like to do that again.

If anyone is suggesting "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result", its some of those who are pushing alternative energy schemes that are backed by, and only profitable with, large government subsidies and/or targeted tax breaks, combined with maintaining tight restrictions on new drilling. The first have failed again and again in the US, the 2nd has kept a large fraction of America's oil potential off limits to the extent that not only have we not been able to use it, we don't even have a really solid idea about how much of it there is.
