Obama has to be thoughtful because he can't be frank.

Agree 100%.

We don't need insincerity this time around. The American people need to hear unvarnished truth. We need some folks who will talk truth to power.

Can McCain be frank? Yes. No doubt about it.

Does he have sufficient information and the necessary understanding of things on which to be frank about?

I can't say that he does.

I was very disappointed when he admitted that he did not know anything about economics. I disappointed again when he fired Gramm, who does know economics, for what was in reality a minor, soon to be forgotten gaffe.

The economic problems are the ones that matter this time around. Iraq, too, of course, but Iraq is part and parcel of the economic problem, IMO.

I don't like the idea that he is a self-professed ignoramus on the economy. But I also see no evidence that Obama is willing to do the necessary to let the American people know how dire the economic situation will be in the future unless some very major changes take place both in what we do individually and in the governmental sector.
