Someone's creating a media storm in order to get the Feds to "fish or cut bait" with regard to a GSE bailout plan.

The prevailing story is that as it currently stands, current FRE and FNM shareholders are screwed no matter what happens (no government intervention, they go under.. government nationalization.. shareholders get nothing).

What's curious in all of this is the performance of the mortgage insurers. Most of them did VERY WELL today, despite the turmoil.

Strikes me that something is in the works regarding bolstering the mortgage insurers to assist the GSEs so they can take the pressure off the Feds who want to do something, but something short of nationalization.

Opinions??
