F5 Networks Helps Averitt Express Accelerate Its Online Booking System
Leading International Freight Transportation Provider Enhances Customer Service with BIG-IP WebAccelerator, Delivers 50% Improvement in Website Performance

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that Averitt Express increased performance of its web-based self-service freight booking applications using the F5® BIG-IP® WebAccelerator™ solution. Upon deployment, Averitt’s customers reported a measurable improvement in website responsiveness almost immediately.

Averitt Express, which services over 100 countries, is a leading freight transportation and supply chain management company. Following an upgrade of the company’s web self-service applications, Averitt customers experienced a slowdown in online booking performance, which led to a 30 percent drop in traffic.

“We live in a ‘serve me now’ society,” said Tony McBroom, Internet Development Leader at Averitt. “Our customers mandate that we provide efficient web services.” Averitt chose BIG-IP WebAccelerator to boost site performance and improve user experience. WebAccelerator is a web application delivery solution that helps organizations overcome performance issues involving browsers, web application platforms, and wide area network (WAN) latency. “We saw an immediate improvement in site performance when we deployed BIG-IP WebAccelerator,” added McBroom.

“To redevelop our applications or to purchase a new application server would have meant huge costs,” said Ray Wilkins, Networking Associate at Averitt. “Not only does the F5 solution meet our acceleration needs, but it does so without any additional overhead. WebAccelerator has been running for over a year with no downtime or performance issues. It’s been our ‘magic bullet’ that solved all latency and speed issues in one fell swoop.”

Averitt realized substantial performance gains by installing a single WebAccelerator device at the company’s data center, while competing solutions required additional devices to be installed at each remote location. With less hardware to purchase, companies like Averitt can more easily achieve a positive return on their acceleration investment. Averitt was also able to optimize their business applications without recoding or implementing larger servers.

“Website performance can make or break important customer relationships,” said Jason Needham, Sr. Director of Product Management at F5. “With WebAccelerator, service-oriented organizations like Averitt can overcome performance issues and provide virtually instant access to the dynamic web applications their users — and their business — depend on. In addition, WebAccelerator enables companies to scale acceleration technology to meet their needs, as it can be deployed as a single device in the data center or expanded to a symmetric deployment for added performance gains at remote locations.”
