No 'business as usual' with Russia, NATO saysFont size: A | A | A9:45 AM ET 8/19/08 | Marketwatch
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- NATO foreign ministers said Tuesday that they "cannot continue with business as usual" with Russia and condemned Russian military action in Georgia as "disproportionate and inconsistent with its peacekeeping role," according to a statement issued after an emergency NATO meeting in Brussels. NATO foreign ministers urged Moscow "to demonstrate - both in word and deed - its continued commitment to the principles upon which we agreed to base our relationship." NATO said it remained "concerned by Russia's actions during this crisis and remind Russia of its responsibility for maintaining security and order in the areas where it exercises control, especially in light of continuing reports of Russia's deliberate destruction of civilian infrastructure."
