I also don't see how raising rates can possibly help banks.

Bernanke is between a rock and a hard place, and his wiggle room is rapidly disappearing. He will likely be forced to raise rates even though it will hurt the banks.

I don't envy Bernanke. He didn't cause this mess. Then again he did sign up of his own free will so too bad for him.
