We are indeed hearing ad nauseum that a slowdown in the US economy will lead to deflation, despite the fact that we are already in a recession and inflation is soaring -- and yes it gets a little sickening to hear it. Even today with a report on PPI showing double digit inflation you will find many on these threads trumpeting the onset of deflation. It is a hoot. You need to get your priorities straight. If you want to know the direction of durable trends it helps to be reminded of the basic driving forces. For us, the basic driving forces are linked to our status as the world's champion cap-in-hand buddy-can-you-spare-a-dime debtor nation and the downward pressure that puts on the dollar combined with the surging of the Chinese economy and most importantly the surging population growth of China. Never in the history of mankind has there been a population surge the likes of which we are seeing before our very eyes in China. It is stunning.
